Day 6: Santa Cruz Island
Day 6: Santa Cruz Island
Today we went to the Charles Darwin Research Station in Puerto Ayora. The majority of the people who live in the Galápagos live on Santa Cruz and in Puerto Ayora. We saw the breeding programs for the giant tortoises and the land iguanas. Then we wandered the town, went to the highlands, and walked a lava tube before a lovely lunch. After, we hiked to see one of the Dos Gemelos, the two pit craters. Then, we wandered a farms where the giant tortoises roam free and wild. Absolutely stunning. They are beautiful, huge, gentle, and today were very patient and photogenic. I'm also very much enjoying the company, both the guides and the participants. Hard to believe - and sad! - that tomorrow is our last day.
